GREAT THINGS ENTERPRISE

MARK 1:2-3
The Father Prepares the Way
Alice and I recently made a trip to the Midwest and needed a motel room. About a week before the trip, I called a local motel to book a room. Sure enough, when we arrived, the room was clean, the linens were in place, and the bed was well-made—they were expecting us. Now, I know every customer expects the same accommodations, but it was good to know that on that evening, they were expecting us and made sure all the amenities were in place.
St. Mark began his gospel by remarking that the appearance of Jesus was no happenstance; it had been planned in eternity past: “As it has been written in Isaiah the prophet, ‘Behold, I am sending my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way. A voice of one calling out in the wilderness, “Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.”’” (Mark 1:2-3) The prophets Isaiah and Malachi foretold his coming, that there would be a messenger to herald his coming.
Believers are not omniscient; they do not have the same view into the present as the Father, but there is comfort in knowing that the Father knows. Lyricist Gene MacLellan saw that vision when he penned the words, “Put your hand in the hand of the man who stilled the water. Put your hand in the hand of the man who calmed the sea. Take a look at yourself, and you can look at others differently. Put your hand in the hand of the man from Galilee.”
Just as the Father prepared the way for the Messiah, so He prepares a way for all who put their hand in the hand of the man from Galilee. May we feel that touch.
