Mark 1
Close literal translaiton

   1. The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, Son of God.
   2. As it has been written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I am sending my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way.
   3. A voice of one calling out in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.’”
   4. John came baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
   5. And all the Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him, and they were baptized in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.
   6. And John was clothed in hairs of a camel and a belt of leather around his waist, and eating locust and wild honey.
   7. And he was preaching, saying, “One mightier than I is coming after me; of whom I am not worthy to stoop down to loosen the strap of his sandals.
   8. I baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
   9. And it came to pass in those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John.
   10. And then as he was coming up from the water, he saw the heavens being split open and the Spirit as a dove coming down upon him.
   11. And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my son, the beloved; in you I am well pleased.”
   12. And then the Spirit compelled him to go into the wilderness.
   13. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tested by Satan, and he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.
   14. And after John was handed over, Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming the good news of God.
   15. And saying, “The time has been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has drawn near. Repent and believe in the good news.”
   16. And as he was going along beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a round net in the sea, for they were fishermen.
   17. And Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.”
   18. And then, leaving behind the nets, they followed him.
   19. And going on a little, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, and they were in the boat mending the nets.
   20. And then he called them. And leaving behind their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, they departed after him.
   21. They went into Capernaum, and then on the Sabbath, after entering into the Synagogue, he was teaching.
   22. And they were amazed at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
   23. And then, a man with an unclean spirit was in their synagogue, and he cried out.
   24. Saying, “What to us and to you, Jesus Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you, who you are, the Holy One of God.”
   25. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him.”
   26. And after having convulsed him and crying out in a great voice, the unclean spirit came out of him.
   27. And they were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”
   28. Then the report about him went out at once everywhere into all the surrounding area of Galilee.
   29. And then having come out of the synagogue, they went into the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
   30. But the mother-in-law of Simon was lying down with a fever, and they spoke to him concerning her.
   31. And going in, he raised her up, having taken her hand, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.
   32. But when evening came, when the sun had set, they brought to him all those who were ill and those possessed by demons.
   33. And the whole city was gathered together at the door.
   34. And he healed many having various diseases and cast out many demons; and he did not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.
   35. And exceedingly early, at night, while it was still dark, arising, he went out to a deserted place and there he was praying.
   36. And Simon and those with him searched intensely for him.
   37. And they found him and said to him, “Everyone seeks you.”
   38. And he said to them, “Let us go elsewhere to the neighboring market towns so that also there I may preach, for this I came.”
   39. And he went into all of Galilee, preaching in all their synagogues and casting out demons.
   40. And a leper came to him, beseeching him, and kneeling, and saying to him, “If you are willing, you are able to cleanse me.”
   41. And having compassion, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I am willing. Be cleansed!”
   42. And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.
   43. And warning him strongly, then he sent him out.
   44. And he said to him, “Look, say nothing to anyone, but go show yourself to the priest, and make an offering concerning your cleansing which Moses commanded, as a witness to them.”
   45. But going out, he began to proclaim much and spread abroad the word, so that he was no longer able openly to enter the city, but he was outside in desert places, and they were coming to him from everywhere.
