Mark Translation

Mark 4
Close literal translaiton
1. And again he began to teach beside the sea, and a very large crowd gathered around him, so he got into a boat on the sea and sat down, and all the crowd was on the land close to the sea.
2. And he taught them many things in parables, and he said to them in his teaching,
3. Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow.
4. And it came about, as he sowed, some seed fell along the road, and the birds came and devoured it.
5. And other seed fell upon the rocky ground where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up because it did not have depth of soil.
6. And when the sun arose, it was scorched; and because it did not have a root, it withered.
7. And other seeds fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them, and they did not produce fruit.
8. And other seeds fell into good soil and began yielding fruit, growing up and increasing, and bearing some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.
9. And he said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”
10. And when he was alone, those around him, with the twelve, asked him about the parables.
11. And he was said to them, “To you, the mystery of the Kingdom of God has been given; but to those outside, all things come in parables.
12. So that seeing they might see and yet not perceive, and hearing they might hear and not understand; otherwise, they may turn and it may be forgiven them.”
13. And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?
14. The sower sows the word.
15. Now these are those beside the road where the word is sown; and whenever they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word which was sown in them.
16. And these are those sown upon the rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately with joy they receive it.
17. And they do not have root in themselves, but they are temporary; when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, immediately they fall away.
18. And others are those being sown among the thorns; these are those hearing the word,
19. And the cares of the age, and the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
20. And these are the ones sown on good soil, who hear the word and receive it and bear fruit—one thirty, and one sixty, and one a hundred.”
21. And he said to them, “The lamp is not brought in order that it be placed under the basket or under the bed, is it? Is it not brought in order that it be placed on the lampstand?
22. For nothing is hidden except that it may be revealed; nor is anything hidden but in order that it might come into the light.
23. If anyone has ears to hear, hear!”
24. And he said to them, “Take heed to what you hear. With what measure you measure, it will be measured to you, and will be given to you.”
25. For whoever has, it will be given to him; and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
26. And he said to them, “The kingdom of God is like a man casting seed upon the earth.
27. And he sleeps and gets up night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows, how, he himself does not know.
28. By itself, the earth brings forth fruit—first a blade, then an ear, then the full grain in the ear.
29. So when the fruit is ready, immediately he sends the sickle, because the harvest has arrived.
30. And he said, “To what shall we liken the Kingdom of God, or by what parable shall we illustrate it?
31. Like a grain of mustard, which, when it has been sown on the earth, being the smallest of all the seeds on the earth,
32. And when it is sown, it comes up and becomes greater than all the garden plants and makes great branches, so that birds of the air are able to dwell under its shadow.”
33. And with many such parables, he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear.
34. And without a parable, he did not speak to them; however, privately, he explained all things to his disciples.
35. And he said to them on that day, when evening came, “Let us pass over to the other side.”
36. And after they dismissed the crowd, they took him along as he was in the boat, and other boats were with him.
37. And a great storm of wind arose, and the waves were breaking over into the boat, so that the boat was already filling up.
38. And he was sleeping in the stern upon the cushion. And they awakened him and said to him, “Teacher, is it of no concern to you that we perish?”
39. And after being awakened, he rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Silence. Be still,” and the wind ceased and there came about a great calm.
40. And he said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you not yet have faith?”
41. And they feared a great fear, and they said to one another, “Who, then, is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
