Mark 10:34

He Will Arise
On this snowy Sunday morning, the first day of February, my attention is drawn to Jesus’ statement about what he and his followers would face upon arriving in Jerusalem. “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and give him to the Gentiles. And they will mock him, and they will spit on him, and they will flog him, and they will kill him, and after three days, he will arise.” (Mark 10:33-34)
For every believer, this passage affirms that Jesus’ suffering and death were not accidents of history. He was willingly giving himself up. In this dismal picture, however, there is a brief phrase that no believer can overlook: “and after three days, he will arise (καὶ μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἀναστήσεται).” It was the resurrection that placed the imprimatur—the official seal—upon Jesus’ statement. So today, I stand with the multitude of believers, we lift our voices to the Living Christ, the Christ who has brought us into the Father’s Kingdom. Praise to his name!
