Worthy Gifts
   There is a story about a poor man who attended a church service where the speaker spoke of sacrificial giving in service to the kingdom. There were offerings of wealth, time, and talent. The poor man, however, had none of these. So, as the story goes, he laid himself on the altar as a sacrificial gift to the Father.
   A man was waiting for the Father to send him on a missionary journey, yet he did not recognize that the daily work before him was, in itself, a gift to the kingdom—a mission field.
   When a poor shepherd protested God’s call, insisting that no one would listen to him, God asked, “What is that in your hand?” (Exodus 4:2)
   Mark wrote, “And they brought the colt to Jesus, and they threw their cloaks on it, and he sat upon it.” (Mark 11:7) The disciples could have protested that they had nothing worthy for Jesus’ use. To secure something appropriate for the occasion, they might have asked for more time. They might have suggested hiring an artisan to fashion a worthy saddle. It is possible that they …
   There are many reasons offered for delaying service to the kingdom, but the disciples used what was in their hands. I get it.
