Mark-10-trans

The Gospel of Mark
Chapter 10
Close literal translation

1. And from there, arising, he went to the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and again crowds gathered around him, and as had been his custom, again he taught them.
2. And in order to test him, Pharisees approached him and were asking him if it is lawful for a man to divorce his wife.
3. And answering, he said to them, “What did Moses command you?”
4. But they said, “Moses permitted [a man] to write a certificate of divorce and to send [her] away.”
5. But Jesus said to them, “Because of your hard hearts, he wrote this commandment to you.
6. But from the beginning of creation he made them male and female.
7. Because of this a man will leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife.
8. And the two will be one flesh, so that they are no longer two but one flesh.
9. Therefore, what God has joined together, let a man not separate.”
10. And in the house, the disciples asked him again about this.
11. And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.
12. And if a woman, after divorcing her husband, marries another man, she commits adultery.”
13. And they brought children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.
14. But seeing, Jesus was indignant and said to them, “Permit the little children to come to me; stop preventing them, for of such is the Kingdom of God.
15. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a child, he will certainly not enter into it.”
16. And taking them in his arms, he was blessing them, having placed his hands upon them.
17. And as he was going out on the way, having run and knelt before him, a man asked him, “Good teacher, what should I do in order to inherit eternal life?”
18. But Jesus said to him, “Why are you calling me good? No one is good except one, God.
19. You know the commandments: do not kill, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.”
20. But he said to him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.”
21. But Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “You lack one thing: Go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
22. But he, appalled at the word, went away sad, for he had many possessions.
23. And looking around, Jesus says to his disciples, “How difficultly, those having possessions will enter into the Kingdom of God.”
24. And the disciples were amazed at this words. But Jesus again says to the them, “Children, how difficult it is to enter into the Kingdom of God.
25. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God.”
26. But they were exceedingly amazed saying to one another, “Then who is able to be saved?”
27. Having looked at them, Jesus says, “With men it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”
28. Peter began to say to him, “Behold, we left all things and follow you.”
29. Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left a house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or lands because of me and because of the good news,
30. Who will not also receive a hundredfold now, in this age, houses, and brothers, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions, and in the age coming eternal life.
31. But many who are first will be last, and the ones last will be first.”
32. Then they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them, and they were astonished, but those following were afraid. And again, taking to himself the twelve, he began to tell them the things about to happen to him.
33. “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be given over to the chief priests and to the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and they will hand him over to the Gentiles.
34. And they will mock him, and they will spit upon him, and they will flog him, and they will kill [him], and after three day he will arise.”
35. And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached him and said to him, “Teacher, we wish that you would do for us whatever we ask you.”
36. But he said to them, “What do you wish that I would do for you?”
37. But they said to him, “Give to us that one at your right and one at your left may sit in your glory.”
38. But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup which I drink or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am being baptized?”
39. But they said to him, “We are able.” But Jesus said to them, “The cup which I drink you will drink and the baptism with which I am baptized, you shall be baptized;
40. But to sit at my right or my left is not for me to give, but it will be given to those for whom it has been prepared.”
41. And hearing, the ten began to be indignant about James and John.
42. And summoning them, Jesus said to them, “Those recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
43. But it is not so among you. Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant.
44. And whoever wishes to be first among you shall be servant of all.
45. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom on behalf of many.”
46. And they came to Jericho. And as he was going out from Jericho, and his disciples and a large crowd, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting beside the road.
47. When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and to say, “Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me.”
48. And many were rebuking him that he would be silent. But he much more was crying out, “Son of David, show mercy to me.”
49. And having stopped, Jesus said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage, get up, he is calling you.”
50. But throwing off his outer garment and quickly leaping up, he came to Jesus.
51. And answering, Jesus said to him, “What do you wish that I should do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabboni, that I might see.”
52. And Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has healed you.” And immediately he could see, and he was following him in the way.
