Mark 3:15

By Whose Authority
A report stated that a man wanted to be a policeman, so he got a red bubble light, put it on top of his car, and began patrolling a street. It wasn’t long, however, before patrolmen arrested him for impersonating an officer. He didn’t have authority.
Jesus left the crowd and went to a mountain to pray (Luke 6:12). Then he called people. None of the writer indicates how many people responded to Jesus summons, but out of that crowd, he began selecting people to be with him and help spread his message. St. Mark said, “And to have authority to cast out demons.” (Mark 3:15)
Unlike the pretend policeman who had no authority, Jesus representatives would have authority, and that authority came from their association with him. What did that authority mean? They did not know at the time, and their understanding of it increased as they continued to fulfill their mission. But the authority always came from their association with Jesus.
