What I Mean is…
It is easy to experience misunderstanding or miscommunication. I experienced two of them recently. I asked a clerk for an item, and he stared at me as if I were from another galaxy. I knew what the item was and where it was, but I couldn’t communicate with the young, new clerk. So, I gave up and left for another store. In another instance, I asked a clerk for the price of an object, and he gave me the price for several of the same item. I wanted just one, so I thought the price was unacceptable.
This kind of miscommunication takes place between Alice and me, even after over six decades of marriage. I suspect the same kind of thing happens to other married couples. Recently, Alice wanted to mail a package, and I thought she wanted to go to the post office when, in fact, she wanted to go to UPS. Oops.
St. Mark said that Jesus told his disciples, “Truly, I say to you that this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things happen.” (Mark 13:30) Was Jesus describing the fall of Jerusalem or the turmoil of the interadvent era? On the one hand, his words were fulfilled in A.D. 70; on the other hand, they continue to unfold in the present era. So, the message to a disciple is to stay committed regardless of the circumstances.
